Standardization Specification: This product is standardized to contain 1.21-2.83 mg/day of Cinnamic acid and, 12.1-22.6 mg/day of Glycyrrhizin. Abdominal Diagnosis (Hara): Weak abdominal tension with fluctuating liquid sound around epigastric area and stonger palpitated abdominal aorta around umbilicus. TCM Formulation Strategy: The chief ingredient, gui zhi, moderates spasmodic abdominal pain through warming the middle burner and dispersing cold. The deputies, liang jiang and xiao hui xiang, warm the middle burner and release the cold, to enhance the function of dispersing cold. Together with the chief herb, they are a powerful combination for warming and tonifying the middle burner. Yan hu suo, sha ren and mu li are the assistants. They work with the deputies to stop the spasmodic abdominal pain. Sha ren warms the middle burner, regulates the qi and alleviates pain. Yan hu suo regulates the middle qi and moderates spasmodic abdominal pain. Mu li can restrain stomach acid to stop pain. Gan cao, serving as the envoy, harmonizes the actions of the other herbs. So the main functions of this formula are to warm and strengthen the spleen, and regulate the middle burner qi.
