TCM Formulation Strategy:

Ban xia, the chief herb, is bitter, pungent, warm and dry. It can remove phlegm to resolve masses, depress the abnormal rising of qi and regulate stomach qi. Hou po, the deputy herb, promotes qi circulation and relieves stagnation, depresses upward-reverse qi and relieves the sensation of fullness. It helps ban xia to disperse obstruction and depress upward-reverse qi. Fu ling excretes damp and helps ban xia remove phlegm. Sheng jiang helps ban xia regulate the stomach and stop vomiting. Zi su ye facilitates the flow of lung-qi and relieve the liver-qi. It helps hou po to promote the circulation of qi to alleviate stagnation in the middle burner. It is the guide herb. Hence this formula can regulate qi, dissipate focal distention and direct rebellious qi downward.

Dosage and Administration:

For adults: 7.5g/day orally divided into 3 doses before or between meals. The dosage may be adjusted based on age, body weight and symptoms.
