TCM Formulation Strategy:

One of the chief herbs, ma huang, releases the exterior and moves water by facilitating the flow of lung qi. The other chief herb, gui zhi, helps the ma huang release the exterior. The deputies, gan jiang and xi xin, warm the interior, especially the middle burner yang, expel the cold, and also transform congested fluids, because the deficiency of spleen yang is the primary cause of congested fluids. In order to prevent the warm acrid herbs, such as gan jiang and xi xin, from scattering the lung qi, wu wei zi and shao yao are used to astringe the lung. And shao yao has the function of nourishing blood and nutritive qi. Another assistant, ban xia, transforms congested fluids and harmonizes stomach qi. Zhi gan cao, as the envoy, augments qi and harmonizes the interaction of herbs. So this formula releases wind-cold from the exterior and transforms congested fluids in the interior.

Dosage and Administration:

For adults: 7.5g/day orally divided into 3 doses before or between meals. The dosage may be adjusted based on age, body weight and symptoms.
