Standardization Specification: This product is standardized to contain 46.3-86.2 mg/day of Paeoniflorin, 35.7-66.4 mg/day of Geniposide, and 28.0-52.1 mg/day of Glycyrrhizin. Abdominal Diagnosis (Hara): Weak abdominal tension with fluctuated liquid sound, pressure pain in subcostal area, stronger palpitated abdominal aorta around umbilicus. TCM Formulation Strategy: This formula is composed of xiao yao san, adding mu dan pi and zhi zi. The chief herb, chai hu, effectively relieves liver constraint. The deputies, dang gui and shao yao, work together to nourish blood and soften the edginess that results from liver constraint. The assistant herbs, fu ling and bai zhu, strengthen spleen qi and thus its transforming and transporting functions. Zhi gan cao, another assistant herb tonifies the spleen, and moderates spasmodic abdominal pain together with shao yao.
