(Makyo-kanseki-to; Ma Xing She Gan Tang)

Description:

The daily dose of 7.5g (3 unit packets) contains 1.70g of Ephedra, Apricot Kernel, Gypsum and Licorice Formula extract powder:

Gypsum (Shi gao)……………………  10.0g

Ephedra Herb (Ma huang)…………… ..4.0g

Apricot kernel (Xing ren)………………4.0g

Licorice (Gan cao)…………………….  2.0g

Standardization Specification:

This product is standardized to contain 24.2-45.0 mg/day of Ephedrine and, 26.5-49.2 mg/day of Glycyrrhizin.

Abdominal Diagnosis (“Hara”):

TCM Formulation Strategy:

Ma huang and shi gao are the chief ingredients. Ma huang releases externally-contracted wind-cold from the muscle layer. And it also disseminates lung qi and treats wheezing. Shi gao, drains heat from the lungs and stomach. The combination of these two herbs releases exterior wind-cold and clears interior heat. The deputy xing ren, assists ma huang by reinforcing its facilitating of lung qi and directing rebellious lung qi downward. Zhi gan cao, the envoy, prevents the stomach from being injured by cold ingredients and regulates the action of all the other herbs.

Dosage and Administration:

The usual adult dose is 7.5 g/day orally in 2 or 3 divided doses before or between meals. The dosage may be adjusted according to the patient's age, body weight, and symptoms.
